Transportation law and international trade
Historically, Ticino has always been crucially located when it comes to the transportation of cargo, however it is over the last ten or fifteen years that the canton has seen a significant rise in the quantity of shipping and transport firms due to the growing need of businesses to provide services to the factories of Swiss origin or the ones established here from the Euro-zone.
This growth was also echoed by a renewed interest in our canton by all major Swiss and foreign underwriters and insurance intermediaries, both of which being attracted by the cargo traders' market and by the physical flow of goods, both inbound and outbound.
As a consequence of the above, local jurisdiction and the Lugano arbitral tribunal have also become more involved concerning adjudicating disputes over cargo claims, operators' liability and insurance obligations.
Specialist legal assistance has therefore become fundamental for local businesses, not only with regard to the protection of the economic interests associated with physically moving goods throughout Ticino, but also relevant to goods traveling anywhere in the world under Swiss legal entities that are operationally and logistically based in Ticino.
Given the centrality of the Ticino logistics platform and the quantity of commodity traders operating in this canton, our firm believes in the importance of providing Ticino-based corporate clients with specialised legal advice focusing on all issues related to the topics concerned by those who have an interest in international transport by sea, air, road and railway, and any relevant insurable interests.
